Terms & conditions

These terms apply when you use this site or buy from it. By placing an order you accept them. Please read the section on vintage and pre-loved pieces in particular — those items are sold differently to new ones.

Who you are dealing with

This site is operated by Interiorem, based in Melbourne, Australia. Where these terms say “we” or “us”, they mean Interiorem.

Some pieces are sold by independent makers and sellers listed through our marketplace. Where that is the case, the listing will say so, and your contract of sale is with that seller rather than with us. We are not a party to those sales and do not control the seller's stock, descriptions or dispatch, though we will help you reach them if something goes wrong.

Orders

A listing is an invitation to buy, not an offer. Your order is an offer to purchase, and a contract forms only when we send you an order confirmation. Until then we may decline or cancel an order — for example where an item has sold, where a price or description was wrong, or where we cannot verify payment details.

Nearly everything here is made in small batches or exists only once. Stock shown as available can sell between your order being placed and confirmed. If that happens we will tell you and refund you in full.

Prices and payment

Prices are in Australian dollars and include GST unless stated otherwise. Delivery is charged separately and is shown before you pay. We may change prices at any time, but not for an order already confirmed.

Payment is taken at checkout through our payment provider. We do not receive or store your full card details.

Handmade pieces

Work made by hand varies. Colour, grain, glaze, weave and dimensions differ between pieces, and a photograph is a record of one example rather than a specification. Variation of this kind is a property of the work, not a fault, and is not on its own a reason for return.

Vintage and pre-loved pieces

Vintage items are sold second-hand and as-is, in the condition described at the time of sale. They carry wear consistent with their age. We describe condition as accurately as we can and photograph notable marks, but you should read the description and images as part of the item, and ask us before buying if anything is unclear.

Age, provenance and attribution are given in good faith on the best information we have. Where a piece is described as being of a period, style or maker, that is our honest opinion and not a guarantee of authenticity unless the listing says a piece is accompanied by documentation.

Vintage pieces are one-off. Where one is damaged in transit or is not as described, a replacement is usually impossible, and a refund will be the remedy.

Your rights under Australian Consumer Law

Our goods come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. You are entitled to a replacement or refund for a major failure and to compensation for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage. You are also entitled to have the goods repaired or replaced if they fail to be of acceptable quality and the failure does not amount to a major failure.

What counts as acceptable quality takes into account how an item was described and what was said about it — including, for second-hand goods, its age and the condition disclosed at the time of sale.

Nothing in these terms limits those rights. Where these terms and the Australian Consumer Law disagree, the Australian Consumer Law applies.

Change of mind

We are not required to give a refund for change of mind, and our policy on this is set out on our FAQ page. Your rights above are unaffected either way.

Delivery

Delivery times are estimates. Made-to-order and commissioned work takes longer than stock items, and the maker's lead time will be given before you buy. Risk in an item passes to you on delivery.

Please check large pieces on arrival and tell us about transit damage as soon as you can, with photographs, so we can take it up with the carrier while a claim is still open.

Accounts

You are responsible for keeping your account details secure and for what happens under your account. Tell us if you think someone else has access to it. We may suspend an account being used to abuse the site, other users or our sellers.

Using this site

The text, photography, layout and code on this site belong to us or to the makers who supplied them, and are protected by copyright. You may browse, and share links. You may not copy our product photography or descriptions for commercial use, scrape the site, or present our content as your own.

Maker names and product names remain the property of the makers concerned.

Journal and directory content

Our journal and maker directory are published for interest. Details about makers, studios and pieces are correct as far as we know at the time of writing and are not warranties about any particular item.

Liability

We do not exclude anything that cannot lawfully be excluded, including the consumer guarantees above. Subject to that, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, and our liability for any claim is limited, at our option, to replacing the item or refunding what you paid for it.

We do not promise the site will be uninterrupted or error-free.

Selling with us

Applying to sell through Interiorem, whether as a maker or on consignment, is subject to a separate agreement between us. See become a seller. Nothing on this page grants a right to list or to sell.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the business changes. The version that applies to your order is the one published when you placed it. The current version always lives on this page, with the date it was last updated shown at the top.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Victoria, Australia, and the courts of Victoria have jurisdiction.
